Race on for striker

Middlesbrough, 13:55, May 28, 2009 ,

Middlesbrough are tipped to go head to head with Coventry for want-away Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford this summer.

The 25-year-old has been transfer-listed by the Elland Road outfit after rejecting a new deal given the fact he is about to enter the final year of his current contract.
Beckford blasted 34 goals last season - including three hat-tricks - but Leeds failed to achieve promotion to the Championship and he clearly sees his future elsewhere.
Boro's squad is set for a massive overhaul during the close season and they have also been credited with an interest in Beckford following relegation from the Premier League.
Reports claim Leeds will listen to offers in excess of £1m to, which would not prove a problem for either Boro or Coventry if they decide Beckford is the man who will fire them into the play-offs.
