Shawky makes quit plea

Middlesbrough, 14:29, February 22, 2009 ,

Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Shawky has said he has no intention of seeing out the remaining 18 months of his Middlesbrough contract.

The £650,000 signing from Al Ahly has failed to win a permanent place in manager Gareth Southgate's starting line-ups and hopes to follow countryman Mido away from Teesside.
"I will not complete my contract at Boro," said Shawky. "I will start from now to search for a new club.
"I haven't received any offers yet, but I have huge hope that they will arrive in the coming period, especially from English clubs, who now know my abilities.
"Mido underwent a lot of injustice at Middlesbrough. He was the best striker in the squad and its top scorer, but despite this he was not played regularly."
