Southgate delighted with striker
Middlesbrough, 13:07, October 28, 2008 ,
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has admitted he did not plan on playing Tuncay at Blackburn but was forced to due to Mido's injury.
The Boro boss had wanted to keep the striker on the bench for the clash at Ewood Park but with Mido turning up with a groin problem he pushed Tuncay in the starting line up and was delighted with his performance.
Southgate told the Evening Gazette: "The Blackburn game was earlier than I wanted to put Tuncay on.
"But we had to have a rethink when Mido reported feeling stiffness in his groin on the morning of the match.
"I knew that when Tuncay did come in he would give us something different because of his work ethic and his qualities, and that's exactly what happened."
