Southgate eyes West Ham win
Middlesbrough, 15:20, October 30, 2008 ,
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate says the weekend clash with West Ham is now a massive game after the win over Manchester City.
Boro will go into the match as favourites as West Ham have lost four on the bounce and are suffering a long list of injury problems prior to the game so Southgate is looking for the side to gain another three points over the Hammers.
"We've taken seven points from the last four games and that's crucial," he told the club's website.
"The players needed to give a performance last night which gave them belief that we can play well at home, score late goals and keep a clean sheet, so there are lots of positives to take into the weekend.
"But the key will be whether we can create an atmosphere here of understanding that we're coming off a huge high and we're going to be expected to go and win the West Ham game.
"Football doesn't happen like that. Can we all be patient enough to keep the ball and try to produce the energy levels to repeat what we did last night?
"If the fans can stay with us, it could be a significant result on Saturday if we can get a positive one."
