Steele in Olympics frame
Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jason Steele could be rubbing shoulders with David Beckham at the Olympic Games this summer.
The Teessiders have been informed the 21-year-old has been included in a shortlist of players who could be selected to represent Great Britain in the football tournament at London 2012.
A club spokesman said: "The club has been informed that [Steele] is in the 80-strong 'shortlist' selected from an original group of more than 200 who were approached to ask if they would be interested in representing Great Britain."
Team GB chef de mission Andy Hunt has already revealed that Beckham and former England team-mate Joe Cole, Scotland's Steven Fletcher, Craig Bellamy of Wales and former Boro trainee Chris Brunt, of Northern Ireland, are also under consideration.
Manager Stuart Pearce is allowed to include three over-age players in his final 18-man squad, the remainder of whom must qualify as Under-23s.
The draw for the tournament is due to take place at Wembley next Tuesday.
