Middlesbrough captain Rhys Williams could miss a large part of the season after damaging ankle ligaments.
The versatile 24-year-old collapsed midway through the Boro's Capital One Cup victory over Gillingham on Tuesday night. Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray told the club's official website: "He's had scans [on Thursday morning] and he's damaged his ankle ligaments, which is what we suspected. "He will now see a specialist to decide if he needs an operation or not but it's still going to be a considerable time out. "It's a blow to both Rhys and to the club. We were going to depend on his quality and athleticism this year." Mowbray has acted swiftly to cover the absence of Williams, and fellow injured defender Jonathan Woodgate, by bringing in former Burnley centre-half Andre Amogou on trial.
