Youngster out to build on U21 goal

Motherwell, 17:14, November 19, 2008

Motherwell forward Jamie Murphy believes his goal for the Scotland Under-21s can boost his chances of regular football for Motherwell.

The 19-year-old turned in an impressive display for the Under-21s, scoring inside three minutes in the 3-1 win over Northern Ireland at New Douglas Park.

And afterwards the youngster admitted he wants to emulate his international team-mates and be playing every week for 'Well.

He said: "It's the best thing to get picked for your country and to score is even better. I got a taste against Denmark. I looked about the team and most of them were playing first team, week in, week out. So that's definitely where I want to be."

Murphy also hopes he caught the eye of senior Scotland boss George Burley with his performance on Tuesday night, and he added: "I'm sure the real Scotland manager watches these games and if he is looking out for you, it can only be good."
