African striker eyed

Newcastle are reported to be keeping tabs on the highly-rated Nigerian striker Edward Ofere with a view to a January move.

Magpies boss Chris Hughton has sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old in action for his current club Malmo in Sweden and the reports he has got back have been favourable.
Hughton has had problems in attack so far this season and although the arrival of Marlon Harewood from Aston Villa has eased matters, he still wants reinforcements.
Shola Ameobi is also closing on a return to action but Ofere is still a target and Hughton will send his scouts to make more checks on the player before making a decision.
