Barcelona are being linked with a surprise swoop for Yohan Cabaye and could test Newcastle's resolve with a bid.
Cabaye only arrived at St James' Park from French outfit Lille last summer and went on to impress in the Premier League as Newcastle shocked everybody by finishing fifth.
It is no surprise to see the talented midfielder linked with a move away from the club and Manchester United are said to be keeping tabs on him but now reports claim Barca are keen.
The Catalan giants have also been linked with his international team-mate Yann M'Vila but it is thought Cabaye is the player they want and a bid could be in the pipeline.
Toon boss Alan Pardew has vowed to keep his star players this summer, while Cabaye himself has urged the board not to cash in on the likes of Demba Ba, but it will be hard for him to resist if Barca do make an approach.
Barca could offer £8million and although that would be a quick profit on the £4.3million Pardew paid last summer, he would much prefer to keep hold of the player.
