Barton praised by boss

Newcastle United, 11:24, October 29, 2008 ,

Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear was delighted with his side's win against West Brom and had special praise for Joey Barton.

The troubled midfielder stepped up and put Newcastle ahead with a penalty in the first half and Kinnear had special praise for the player for having the confidence to take the spot kick that put the side on the road to victory.
"He showed a lot of bottle to do that," said Kinnear after Tuesday's 2-1 win.
"He wasn't on penalties and he'd have been in trouble if he'd missed, but fair play to him, he's obviously a very confident lad.
"He stuck it away well and he's trying to prove a point - all he wants is to play football and be given a chance.
"Whatever happened in the past [with Barton] has gone. It's done and dusted and hopefully Newcastle fans will see that,"
