Battle on for Lille ace
Newcastle United, 09:08, February 23, 2012
Newcastle look set to battle it out with Arsenal for the signature of Lille central defender Aurelien Chedjou in the summer.
Toon boss Alan Pardew is turning to France on a regular basis as he looks to strengthen his squad while it has always been a happy hunting ground Gunners counterpart Arsene Wenger in the past.
The 26-year-old is a Cameroon international and his agent Bruno Satin claims that talks are ongoing with a number of clubs with a view to him moving to England at the end of the season.
Those clubs appear to be Newcastle and Arsenal and a battle for his signature could be on the cards.
Satin told Italian football website calciomercatoweb.it: "Lille is doing a little less well than last year so it is likely that after this season he'll leave the French club.
"His priority is to go to England. I'm talking to some clubs in the Premier League and we are working for a possible transfer overseas."
Alan Pardew hopes that having the likes of Yohan Cabaye at the club could give him a chance of fighting off Arsenal, who are usually favourites when Wenger is involved.
