Joe Kinnear admits he must sell players to generate his own transfer funds, but he's got no intention of cashing in on Shay Given.
Given is one of Newcastle's most saleable assets, but Kinnear has assured fans that none of his "big guns" will go in January as he looks to wheel and deal in the transfer window.
The Magpies manager has been told by owner Mike Ashley that he can bring players in with Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson one of his top targets.
He accepts that he will have to let one or two members of his squad leave if he is to raise money, with speculation suggesting that the likes of Xisco, Jose Enrique, Alan Smith and Charles N'Zogbia could be available.
"One deal will automatically trigger the next one," Kinnear told The Sun.
"So I'm banging on the door hoping that the buying club will make a decision.
"I just hope it never comes down to Mike suggesting I sell Shay Given."
