Boss ready to step up transfer activity
Newcastle United, 18:11, July 15, 2010 ,
Newcastle boss Chris Hughton admits it has been quiet in terms of transfers at St James' Park but is expecting things to pick up.
Hughton feels the World Cup has ensured the transfer market has been quieter than usual but is expecting to bring in some new faces over the next couple of weeks now the tournament has come to an end.
"We're still looking for one or two quality additions to the existing squad and I'm quite sure that we will have them in before the start of the season," he said.
"I think the market has been very slow so far and perhaps understandably not many clubs have been doing business while the World Cup has been on.
"But since that finished I've noticed that slowly but surely clubs are beginning to do their business - and that is better for all of us.
"We're working on things and it is moving forward but once again, the most important thing is that we get the right players in who can add something to our squad."
The Newcastle boss has managed to bring in just one new face, defender James Perch from Nottingham Forest, since the end of last season.
