Cheeky Spanish bid on way
Newcastle United, 11:42, August 20, 2009 ,
Espanyol are set to make a last-ditch 'take it or leave it' bid for unsettled Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini.
The Argentina international wants to quit St James' Park to return to Spain, where he had a successful spell at Alaves, and will reportedly push the club to let him go before the transfer window shuts.
Espanyol are hoping to pick up a bargain and intend to make their £1.3 million offer as late as possible to pressure the Magpies into selling Coloccini - who cost almost £10m.
But Newcastle are desperate to cut their wage bill and may be prepared to cut their losses on a player who earns £60,000-a-week.
