Defender signs

Newcastle United, 12:52, January 21, 2010 ,

Newcastle have completed the signing of Danny Simpson from Manchester United and handed him a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The full-back has been on loan from the Premier League champions for the first half of the season but that agreement expired after Monday's 2-2 draw with West Brom.
Magpies boss Chris Hughton said: "We're delighted to complete a permanent deal for Danny.
"He's a player who has been with us since the summer and has played a key role during the first half of the season.
"Danny is a very popular lad in the dressing room and he took no time at all to settle in.
"He was always a player we wanted to keep at the club and he was very keen to stay given how much he's enjoyed his time here."
The Championship leaders have paid an undisclosed fee to secure his services.
