Fighting talk from Kinnear

Newcastle United, 09:40, September 29, 2008 ,

Joe Kinnear has vowed to defy his critics and steer crisis club Newcastle away from the threat of relegation from the Premier League.

Kinnear, installed on Friday as interim manager until the club is sold by owner Mike Ashley, sat uncomfortably in his new seat as Newcastle crashed to a 2-1 home defeat by Blackburn at St James' Park 24 hours later.
Kinnear has already conceded he is living in the shadow of fans' favourite Kevin Keegan but says he is determined to see the job through to the best of his ability.
"I know I am going to get crucified but I will take it on the chin and get on with the job," he told the Daily Mirror.
"I think I am bright. I have had a good football career. I am no mug, you know what I mean?
"But because I was associated with Wimbledon for so long, and turned over people for so long, the hatred starts.
"It is the same up here. I have been branded a Cockney. How am I Cockney?
"I was born and reared in Ireland, and played for Ireland.
"Every second there is always someone who wants to stab you in the back.
"Every second I turn a corner here it is Kevin Keegan. What else can I say?
"There is always someone to carry the can. What I can say is that there will be no more players coming in.
"I can say that for sure. Ashley has made a statement. He will not be investing any more money."
