Given display pleases boss

Newcastle United, 11:58, August 18, 2008 ,

Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan claims Shay Given's display against Man Utd justified his decision to start the season with the Irishman.

Given made his first Premier League appearance since February in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and pulled off a couple of smart saves early in the first half to mark his return from injury problems.
Keegan told the club's website: "You are always going to ride your luck a bit at Old Trafford and we had to do that at times.
"But those saves, especially the first one with his head, were incredible. That has allowed us to settle down and then take the lead."
Meanwhile, Keegan refused to blame Steven Taylor's absence for United's equaliser which came moments after Obafemi Martins headed the Magpies into the lead.
"They equalised almost straight away when we were down to ten men with Steven Taylor off getting treatment, but it was a great goal and who is to say if Steven had been on they would not have scored?" he added.
