Gunners target Tiote
Arsenal have joined the race to sign Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote as Arsene Wenger looks to replace Alex Song.
Earlier in the week Tiote was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea but now Newcastle could face another battle to keep hold of the midfielder after reports claimed the Gunners could make a bid. Arsenal are expected to wrap up the signing of Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid this week but Wenger also wants a powerful ball winner to replace Song and is ready to target Tiote. Alan Pardew cannot wait for the transfer window to close and admits he is bracing himself for offers for his top players. "We are on our guard in case some really big bid comes in and we need to react because if someone goes out, another player will come in," Pardew revealed. "But success for me in this transfer window would be losing none of our stars." Wenger has the £15million from the sale of Song to Barcelona to spend but he may have to find another £5million on top of that to have any chance of striking a deal.
