Hughton confident of landing job

Newcastle United, 13:45, October 21, 2009 ,

Chris Hughton is confident he will still be named Newcastle manager on a permanent basis despite the defeat against Scunthorpe.

Hughton is set to hold talks with owner Mike Ashley this weekend in an attempt to thrash out a deal and does not expect the deal to collapse after last night's 2-1 defeat against the Iron.
"It will have no effect at all," he said after the defeat. "As far as I know they (the talks) are still going ahead. I'm still very confident the situation hasn't changed."
Hughton could be appointed after this weekend's game against Doncaster, but if they were to suffer their third defeat on the bounce then Ashley may have a change of heart.
