Hughton ready for club verus country fight
Newcastle United, 12:27, October 1, 2009 ,
Chris Hughton has confirmed he will prevent Newcastle's Fabricio Coloccini from linking up with Argentina due to his groin injury.
The Magpies caretaker boss was without the influential central defender for Wednesday's 1-1 draw against QPR at St James' Park as the side missed the chance to move five points clear at the top of the Championship table.
And with Coloccini almost certain to miss Saturday's visit of Bristol City, Hughton will prevent him from linking up with Diego Maradona's squad for their must-win World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Peru.
Hughton, who expects Jonas Gutierrez to travel after his return against the R's, told the Shields Gazette: "It's one I need to check, but from our point of view, if he doesn't play the weekend, then he's not going. If we all had a choice as coaches, you'd prefer it if everybody stayed.
"At this moment Jonas is fit, and it's his prerogative and privilege to go away with his country."
Ryan Taylor is set miss out on Saturday with an ongoing calf problem, while Joey Barton's foot injury will sideline him.
