Stand-in boss Chris Hughton thinks Joe Kinnear will have input into team affairs just days after his heart bypass surgery on Friday.
The Magpies chief is set to go under the knife and will be signed off for at least two months, but Hughton expects the fiery former Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest manager to be back in the loop in double-quick time.
"I'd imagine at the first available time he'll be ringing up and, of course, as we go into our next game against Everton, I would imagine that as soon as he can after that he'll be on the phone," Hughton told Sky Sports.
Kinnear was taken ill ahead of the 3-2 win at West Brom last Saturday.
The Magpies are next in action on Sunday February 22 against Everton at St James' Park.
