Latics rule out striker swoop

Newcastle United, 17:00, June 17, 2009 ,

Michael Owen will not be on his way to Wigan this summer after the Latics ruled out a swoop for the Newcastle striker.

Owen is certain to leave St James' Park this summer and his agents have even sent a brochure out to Premiership clubs who would have a chance of doing a deal.
Latics chairman Dave Whelan says Wigan have not received any contact but says they would not be interested any way as doubts remain over his appetite for the game.
"We haven't received the brochure, and we wouldn't be interested in him anyway," Whelan revealed. "His wages are too expensive, for one thing, and, for another, you have to ask whether he still has the urge, the bottle and the drive.
"I hope he has, because he has been a great player. But that's a big question."
