Lille have said Mathieu Debuchy can leave once they have found a replacement as reports suggest Newcastle have made an improved bid.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has made the France international his top target as he looks to draft in a new right back this summer and is thought to have already failed with one bid. However reports are now claiming that an improved offer has gone in and Pardew will be hoping it is accepted. Lille manager Rudi Garcia has admitted defeat in his attempts to keep hold of the player, who has a contract until 2015, but says he will only be allowed to leave on their terms. He said: "Mathieu wants to leave. But we had no plans for him to leave. He will only leave when I have found someone equally as good to replace him. And that will cost a lot of money. "Mathieu is one of my key players. He sets an example, a young man who has been brought up well and gives his all for the cause. "My role is not to put the team in jeopardy. If we find a replacement for him of the same stature, and the right club comes in for Mathieu, then he can leave."
