Newcastle are hoping to wrap up a deal for Vurnon Anita after the Ajax star jetted in to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.
The Magpies have agreed a £6.6million fee with the Dutch club but they still have to sort out terms with the player before a move can be rubber stamped. The 22-year-old is expected to sign a five-year deal at St James' Park and he did not anticipate any problems when he spoke to reporters before heading to England. "Ajax and Newcastle have reached an agreement, but I have not spoken to Newcastle yet," said Anita. "The complete picture must be good. If talks do not go well, I will stay at Ajax, but I think everything will be all right." Alan Pardew does not expect the arrival of Anita to be the last either as he steps up his attempts to land defender Douglas from FC Twente, while he has not given up all hope of landing Mathieu Debuchy from Lille. All transfers are in the hands of managing director Derek Llambias and Pardew is confident he will come up trumps before the transfer window closes.
