Magpies turn to youth against Town

Newcastle United, 16:40, August 26, 2009 ,

Keeper Tim Krul will make his home debut for the Magpies in a much-changed team for tonight's Carling Cup tie against Huddersfield.

The 21-year-old keeper is likely to be one of the older players on show with stand-in boss Chris Hughton planning to give opportunities to a number of the club's youngsters.
Andy Carroll will definitely miss out with a groin problem while Joey Barton's a big doubt with a foot injury.
Slovenian teenager Haris Vuckic, who turned 17 last Friday, is named in the squad and should play some part in the game while Ryan Donaldson and Tamas Kadar are both tipped for their first starts.
Donaldson is certainly determined to make an impression after catching the eye of Hughton after the mass exodus at the club this season. The Gosforth lad figured quite heavily for the first team during pre-season and his form has also led to a call-up to the England Under-19 squad for next month's friendly with Russia.
Donaldson said: "It's been going really well for me so far this season, I've been training with the first team and working as hard as I can.
"It's a great opportunity for me.
"It goes without saying that getting on and making my debut tonight at St James's Park is the dream of any Geordie so hopefully that's the case and of course we get the win to go through to the next round.
"To get back into the England fold is also brilliant for me.
"To have Nile Ranger in there alongside me for England is also great and hopefully we can fly the flag for Newcastle United at international level."
Ranger is another player tipped for a start this evening after making three appearances off the bench this season.
