Magpies waiting for right offers
Newcastle United, 12:40, October 7, 2009 ,
The sale of Newcastle United is reportedly still no nearer despite five consortia said to be interested in buying out Mike Ashley.
Current chairman Ashley has been hopeful of securing £100million for the Magpies for the past 12 months, but nothing has materialised. However following the resolution to the long-standing Kevin Keegan dismissal claim, it was hoped more potential buyers would come to the surface given that the threat of a massive pay-out to the former manager was no longer hanging over the club.
Local businessman Barry Moat and four other parties are all thought to be interested in doing a deal for the Championship leaders, but negotiations have failed to progress this week.
Ashley is also said to be happy to wait for the right offer to come his way which means talk of a possible deadline to a deal look to be wide of the mark.
