Magpies waiting on striker

Newcastle United, 13:26, December 19, 2008

Newcastle will give striker Obafemi Martins a late fitness test to see whether he will be available for Sunday's clash with Tottenham.

The Nigeria international picked up a groin injury in last weekend's 3-0 win at Portsmouth, but he has made good progress this week and boss Joe Kinnear is hoping he will be fit to face Spurs.

If Martins is ruled out, Shola Ameobi or Mark Viduka could get the nod to start up front alongside Michael Owen although Andy Carroll's recent good reserve form means he is also in contention.

Joey Barton (knee), Alan Smith (foot) and Igancio Gonzalez (Achilles) all remain on the sidelines.
