Midfielder to stay in Italy

Newcastle United, 10:15, August 26, 2008 ,

Newcastle's move for Juventus midfielder Tiago looks to be off after boss Claudio Ranieri admitted he wants him to stay in Italy.

Tiago endured a difficult campaign with Juventus last season and had been tipped for a move to England with both Newcastle and Everton linked with a move for the midfielder.
The 27-year-old former Chelsea player only signed for Juve last summer from French outfit Lyon but has struggled to find a place for himself in Ranieri's first team.
Despite a difficult season in Italy last year Ranieri has been impressed with Tiago and would be happy for him to stay.
He told Italian sports TV station Rai Sport: "Tiago is a wonderful lad, an exemplary professional, and if he remains I would happily accept it,
"He knows that I rate him and he is improving."
