Milan star wanted

Newcastle United, 13:43, July 21, 2010 ,

Aston Villa and Newcastle have reportedly made offers to sign disgruntled AC Milan midfielder Mathieu Flamini.

The former Arsenal man has endured a disappointing time in Italy since moving on a free transfer in 2008 as he's struggled to hold down a regular first-team place and has often been forced to play as a full-back.
The French international only made 14 league starts last season and is desperate to clinch a move before the new campaign gets underway.
Villa are keen on West Ham midfielder Scott Parker but the Hammers are asking for too much money, so Martin O'Neill is believed to have switched his attention to the far cheaper option of Flamini.
O'Neill needs midfield reinforcements with Steve Sidwell and Nigel Reo-Coker both expected to leave the club before the close of the transfer window, coupled with the ongoing speculation about James Milner's future with Manchester City hot on his heels.
The Magpies would like to take Flamini on loan first with funds tight at St. James Park, as they look to bolster their squad following their return to the Premier League.
It's thought either club would need to stump up around £5m to secure the player's signature on a permanent basis.
