Aston Villa are expected to step up their bid to sign Newcastle winger James Milner now Shaun Maloney has rejoined Celtic.
Maloney has returned to Parkhead after 18 months at Villa Park where he failed to settle despite being reunited with former Bhoys boss Martin O'Neill south of the border.
And with O'Neill looking to add to his squad before the end of the transfer window, Magpies star Milner is tipped to be the subject of a £9m bid.
Newcastle chief Kevin Keegan has already insisted he wants to keep hold of the former Leeds youngster who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Villa two seasons ago.
Maloney has signed a four-year deal after completing a reported £2.5m transfer while Celtic have also confirmed midfielder Evander Sno has returned to Ajax after failing to establish himself at the club.
