Newcastle can capture former glories - Nolan

Newcastle United, 14:31, February 14, 2009 ,

Newcastle new arrival Kevin Nolan says he wouldn't have joined the club if he didn't believe that the Toon could avoid relegation.

The 26-year-old midfielder is aware that the team is in need of rebuilding and that there is plenty of work to be done on the pitch but appears confident that Newcastle can avoid relegation.
"I'm sure, given the position we're in, the fans will be right behind us," Nolan told the Chronicle.
"They want to be where they belong, and we want to be where we belong.
"With us working together, I'm sure we can go on to better things.
"I don't think we'll have any problems with the ability we've got in the squad."
Nolan is also hopeful that the Toon can return to the heights of challenging for the Premier League title, despite Newcastle supremo Derek Llambias' plans leaving some fans questioning the direction of the club this week.
"It's important we consolidate this year, and then we can go on to bigger and better things next season. That's why I am here," Nolan added.
"Outside the top four, there are not many clubs who have the fanbase and stadium to rival Newcastle, and that was a massive attraction for me."
