Newcastle have won the race to sign former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is who is set for a medical at the club today.
The former England centre-half had been linked with a move to Sunderland and was also wanted by Glasgow giants Celtic but instead has opted for St James' Park.
Depending on the outcome of the medical the 35-year-old will become Chris Hughton's latest summer signing after he swooped to land Dan Gosling from Everton last week.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce was interested in Campbell, who Arsenal also wanted to keep, but last week signed Titus Bramble from his former club Wigan.
