No Clarets deal for Duff
Newcastle United, 11:45, June 12, 2009 ,
The advisor of Newcastle winger Damien Duff has rubbished speculation that the player is a potential summer signing for Burnley.
Reports on Thursday claimed the 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international was set to be the subject of a transfer tussle between the Clarets and Aston Villa ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
However, Duff's representative Pat Devlin has moved quickly to play down the claims he is moving on and insists the former Chelsea star would not consider a move to Turf Moor due to his close ties with local rivals Blackburn, where he started his career in England.
"No, he's still under contract at Newcastle and that would be his first port of call," said Devlin.
"I think someone's winding up the Burnley fans because he's a Blackburn fella!"
Boss Owen Coyle is thought to be looking for a natural left winger this summer given that Robbie Blake and Chris Eagles were used in the role at times last term. However, Duff's reported £70,000-a-week wages at Newcastle would prove prohibitive even if the club and player were willing to do a deal.
