Pardew waits on defender news
Newcastle are waiting to discover the full extent of Danny Simpson's hamstring injury and will be praying it is not serious.
Simpson limped out of Sunday's 1-1 draw against Aston Villa with the injury and boss Alan Pardew has confirmed they are still waiting to hear whether it is a strain or a tear.
If it is the latter then the right-back will be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines and it will be yet another blow for the Magpies, who are already without Ryan Taylor who damaged knee ligaments last week.
The season is just four games old but the Newcastle squad is already looking stretched and with the transfer window now shut Pardew will have to go until the January window with what he has got.
Pardew failed to land right-back Matthieu Debuchy from Lille in the summer and it could come back to haunt him if Simpson is ruled out for any length of time.
Vurnon Anita switched there on Sunday but it is clearly an area that Newcastle are lacking strength so the news on Simpson has to be good.
