Race on for strike ace

Newcastle United, 17:53, March 31, 2010 ,

Newcastle are reported to be showing an interest in Wolves striker Kevin Doyle if they win promotion to the Premier League.

The Republic of Ireland star has been in great form of late, despite the continued speculation that he may be on his way from the club in the summer irrespective of where Wolves finish in the table.
Everton and Aston Villa are said to be leading the chase to land the striker and now Newcastle have been mentioned as an interested party as Magpies boss Chris Hughton keeps one eye on the transfer market.
"He's been terrific and, to tell you the truth, I would be more surprised if top teams weren't sitting up there and taking notice," Wolves boss Mick McCarthy revealed.
"There is a lot being spoken about Doyley, but I tell you what, he just takes it in his stride. He is a team player and he doesn't get carried away with it all. He just gets on with the job. He loves it.
"Speculation about him doesn't bother me and it certainly doesn't seem to bother him."
