Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is ready to offer Michael Owen a new three year deal at the club said to be worth £140,000 a week.
The 28-year-old England striker has just 12 months left on his contract and Newcastle owner Ashley is desperate to ensure he does not walk away from the club for nothing next summer so he is ready to offer him the best ever deal in Newcastle's history, according to the Sun.
Owen has been linked with moves to a number of clubs but Ashley is desperate to keep hold of his star asset, despite the fact that his three years at the club have been blighted by injury since his £16million move from Real Madrid.
A Toon insider told the Sun: "It's the best contract the club has ever offered and shows the owner is prepared to spend big when it comes to keeping the best players.
"It's also a massive vote of confidence in Kevin Keegan, who has always wanted Owen to stay."
