Remy bid fails

Newcastle are reported to have failed with a bid for Marseille's Loic Remy as Alan Pardew steps up his search for a new striker.
Pardew is keen to bolster his attack before the season gets underway and looks to have turned his attentions to the highly-rated Remy, who will be allowed to leave France at the right price. However Newcastle's reported 12millon euros bid falls well short of Marseille's valuation and it could take another 6million euros on top of the offer for a deal to happen. The 25-year-old is also attracting interest from Tottenham and Lille, but so far neither club has come close to striking a deal and the door is still open should Pardew wish to raise his offer. Any move to bring Andy Carroll back to the club appears to be on hold for now at least, while all attempts to land Luuk De Jong have been shelved so Pardew is ready to look elsewhere and Remy is one of a number of targets he is likely to be checking out.
