Royals eye midfielder
Reading have entered the race to sign Danny Guthrie, with the midfielder on course to leave Newcastle this summer.
Guthrie is due to fall out of contract at the end of the season and there is no sign of him penning a new one, as boss Alan Pardew plans further additions in the summer. There is already plenty of competition in midfield and with Pardew looking to add even more quality when the transfer window opens again, Guthrie will slip even further down the pecking order. Aston Villa were thought to be leading the race at one point but now Reading have entered the running, following promotion back to the Premier League, with Guthrie a target for their boss Brian McDermott. The former Liverpool man is said to be leaning towards the Royals as he feels he will have a better chance of playing every week, something that may not be guaranteed at Villa.
