Shearer in dark over future
Newcastle United, 09:21, May 25, 2009 ,
Alan Shearer insists he has not been offered the Newcastle manager's job on a permanent basis after the end of his eight-game deal.
The former Magpies captain was brought in to keep the Magpies in the Premier League after Joe Kinnear's heart surgery, but he was unable to stave off relegation following the defeat at Aston Villa on Sunday.
Shearer claims Newcastle need "big changes" and that "players need to go out, players need to come in", however he might not be the man to oversee the rebuilding of the club.
"Ask me that in a few days. I haven't even thought about it," he told Sky Sports when asked if he wanted to stay at the helm.
"First and foremost I haven't been offered it and I haven't thought about it."
Shearer added: "It's a magnificent football club, you've seen our following today. They deserve better than we've given them all season."
