Rob Lee's revelation that Alan Shearer is up for the Newcastle job "on his own terms" is likely to mean the end for Dennis Wise.
The legendary ex-Magpies striker is now ready to make the St James' Park hot-seat his own, according to his good pal and former team-mate, which is likely to bring down the current management structure set in place by owner Mike Ashley.
Ashley's appointment of Wise as executive director has not been popular with transfer activity initiated by the ex-Chelsea midfielder generally perceived to have hastened Kevin Keegan's departure.
And Shearer is known to be an opponent of the current set-up at the club, saying he would only take over if he was in full control of the club's transfer policy.
Lee told The Mag fanzine: "I firmly believe that he would do it tomorrow if the job is how he wants it, without all the silly games going on that have killed it.
"When you look at Keane, Southgate, Ince and now Adams, then it is the time for Alan to take the job on.
"They all learnt on the job and one thing Alan has is the respect of every single player at Newcastle.
"And I know for a fact that Michael Owen and any top player would come to play for him. We have not got Euro football at the minute, and other things target players look for, but Alan Shearer will be a magnet for the top guys. And yes, I would love to be part of it.
"Joe Kinnear has been talking about players he wants, so maybe the role is a lot clearer now.
"The fans would love him to take over now and be in charge and Mike Ashley would solve a lot of his problems in my mind by appointing Alan and, in turn, accepting that mistakes have been made.
"Now is the time to make the club what we all want.
"Alan could be a priceless get-out-of-jail card. Mike Ashley has to put a top, top man in charge if he is going to stay as he has to create the buzz and get the fans back onside."
