Shearer's the man - Owen

Newcastle United, 12:21, July 5, 2009 ,

Former striker Michael Owen has urged Newcastle to appoint Alan Shearer as permanent manager as quickly as possible.

Owen left the Magpies for Manchester United this week with the north-east outfit in turmoil as owner Mike Ashley looks to sell up and they are currently without a boss.
But Owen insists Shearer proved his credentials last season despite an ill-fated eight-game tenure which ended in relegation to the Championship.
"Hopefully Alan will obviously keep the job, take the job and it'll start coming back for them. I know him well. I like him as a friend as well," Owen told Sky Sports News.
"Even just in the few weeks that he took over everyone can see that there's something there and he'll be a success in management.
"He'll be great for Newcastle to have. He's got a real feeling and passion for the club and that's what they need at this time."
