Fulham are keen on Danny Simpson even though the defender is keen to sign a new deal with Newcastle.

Cottagers chief Martin Jol has targeted the 25-year-old as he bids to bring in a new right-back to rival Irishman Stephen Kelly for a first-team place next season. And, Jol could be about to make an offer to the Magpies if he continues to drag his feet over signing a new deal. Simpson was a regular under boss Alan Pardew last season, but with only a year remaining on his current contract, the club will look to sell him in the transfer window if he fails to sign the new one on the table. It is thought Newcastle will increase Simpson's wages to around £25,000, but the former Manchester United wants moving in line with the club's biggest earners. If no agreement can be reached then Jol could move in for Simpson, although Newcastle will not allow him to leave on the cheap. In the meantime, Simpson insists that he wants to remain at the Sports Direct Arena and hopes to come to an agreement. "I'm not a greedy player and I just want to be on par with the other players around me. In football terms, what I'm asking for is by no means outrageous," Simpson said at the weekend. "I want to stay at this club and I've been saying that all season. I've recently had a baby, I'm happy here and so is my family. "Hopefully me and the club can find some solution. I want to stay but if I have to move, then I will accept it and move on."
