Striker bid rejected

Newcastle United, 11:37, December 31, 2009 ,

Newcastle are reported to have failed with a £1.25million bid for Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford.

Magpies boss Chris Hughton is keen to sign a new striker when the transfer window opens tomorrow and has long been linked with a move for the free scoring Beckford.
Reports now claim that Newcastle made their bid soon after the player's recent bust up with Leeds boss Simon Grayson but it was immediately thrown out as it is nowhere near the Whites' valuation.
Leeds will be very reluctant to let Beckford move on and now Hughton has to decide whether or not to go back with an improved bid in the hope they will sell.
