Newcastle could face a battle to keep hold of Andy Carroll after reports claimed Stoke City are keen on the striker.
Magpies boss Chris Hughton is determined to keep hold of his star players as the club look to win promotion back to the Premiership but it looks as though his resolve may be tested with Carroll.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis has spoken of his desire to sign new players next month and reports claim that he is lining up a bid for Carroll as doubts surround the future of James Beattie.
"We must not get too comfortable," Pulis revealed. "We might have to fund it by moving on one or two - but last January's arrivals made a massive difference and it would be lovely to bring in two impact players.
"I've had a chat with the chairman. We've got a tough second half of the season."
