Striker wants fair price

Newcastle United, 09:24, August 12, 2008 ,

Shola Ameobi has asked Newcastle not to price him out of a move, but has called for another chance to prove his worth to the Magpies.

The striker has been badly hampered by injuries over the past couple of seasons and it had appeared the 26-year-old would be on the move during the current transfer window.
But as we get ever closer to the end of August, Ameobi remains a Newcastle player and his chances of first-team action at St James's look slim with the likes of Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka ahead of him in the pecking order.
Ameobi would like the chance to win a place in Kevin Keegan's plans but says, if the manager does not want him in the squad, Newcastle should not price him out of a move away from Tyneside.
The former England Under-21 star, a former target for Stoke, West Brom and Norwich, said: "I hope it will not be the case that I get priced out of a move.
"If the club don't want me, they know that I've been a faithful servant, so, in a perfect world, being allowed to leave for a reasonable price would happen."
Ameobi added: "If regular football doesn't happen, I'll have to go somewhere else. But I'm still hoping I can get a chance here."
