Taylor wants to be tested
Newcastle United, 13:19, March 26, 2011
Newcastle's Steven Taylor has insisted he is ready and raring to go and help his side's bid to stay in the Premier League.
Taylor has spent a lot of the season on the sidelines, most recently with a hamstring injury which he sustained against West Ham in January.
Yet the defender is struggling to reclaim a place back in a squad battling for survival, who were demolished last match 4-0 by Stoke and have a must-win game after the international break, against fellow strugglers Wolves.
The 25-year-old faces stiff competition from Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini for a start as centre-back, but he is adamant he is ready to play as soon as he is called upon.
Taylor told The Chronicle: "I'm fit for selection. I'm just waiting for my chance - it's as simple as that.
"Every game, you have to see what side the gaffer picks. That's all I can do.
"We can't get carried away. We've got to knuckle down and take it a game at a time.
"It's going to be tough against Wolves. They're getting some good results, and we can't treat them lightly, even though it's at St James' Park.
"We have to sort our home form out. Hopefully, we'll be OK"
