Toon boss confident of survival

Alan Pardew has refused to set Newcastle a points target this season but is confident he can keep the Magpies in the Premier League.
Pardew began his reign with an impressive 3-1 win over Liverpool last weekend before Saturday's trip to Birmingham fell foul of the weather.
The new boss remains confident his side can avoid being embroiled in a relegation fight in the second half of the season but, when asked how high in the table Newcastle can go, he refused to set unnecessary targets.
Pardew told the Chronicle: "We won't rule anything out. I'm not going to say what we can and can't achieve."
If the Magpies can continue with the form they showed against Liverpool then the threat of relegation will be expelled but Pardew is not even thinking about going down but is well aware of the implications.
"That (relegation) thought has not even entered my mind, if I'm honest.
"Of course when a big club goes down it is going to be damaging to them. That's because of the contracts you are carrying.
"It was an issue here and the board stuck with big contracts to get promoted. It doesn't always work that way."
