Toon star plays down injury fears
Midfielder Yohan Cabaye is confident he will overcome an ankle problem in time for Newcastle's clash against Spurs next weekend.
Cabaye geared he could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering suspected ligament damage while playing for France against Albania on Friday night.
But scans have revealed that the 25-year-old suffered nothing worse that bruising and he is hopeful that he will be able to continue in the Magpies' midfield against Tottenham next Sunday while he is also hoping to feature in France's next Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday night.
Cabaye has made an outstanding start to his career with Newcastle since completing a summer move from Lille, helping Alan Pardew's side go unbeaten over the first six weeks of the season.
Cabaye said: "I hope I will be fit for Tuesday and that this game does not pass me by. My left ankle got stamped on. I didn't want to take the risk and came off.
"I will have tests, I don't know whether it is a sprain or a bad bruise but it was very painful and I couldn't carry on like that."
