Toon suffer defensive injury woe
Newcastle United, 14:30, January 28, 2010 ,
Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has admitted he is concerned about his defence after Jose Enrique picked up a hamstring injury.
The Spaniard pulled up midway through the first half of the Toon's 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night and will now undergo tests to determine the extent of the injury.
With Steven Taylor out until March and Danny Simpson still sidelined the arrival of Mike Williamson from Portsmouth couldn't have come at a better time.
Despite Williamson's arrival Hughton still admits that his defensive options are spread thin and is hopeful Enrique's injury won't be too bad.
"It is a concern for us at the moment. Jose has felt his hamstring and we're hoping the fact he came off straight away rather, than make it any worse, will have helped," said Hughton.
"We won't know until the morning how serious it is.
"We're taken a few knocks and bruises tonight but at this stage of the season, when everyone is fighting to do well, you expect competitive games, and tonight was very competitive."
