Town's striker hopes fade

Ipswich's bid to sign Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi on loan is reportedly set to fail this week to extend their search for a hitman.
Reports claim Town want to take the Nigeria international on a temporary basis but the Magpies are said to have insisted they commit to a permanent deal in the January transfer window.
But with the £2.5m-rated striker carrying a hamstring problem, Portman Road officials are thought to be unwilling to take a gamble.
Ameobi looks to be well down the pecking order at St James' Park but could be left in limbo if a compromise deal is not thrashed out by September 1.
